Key to Weight Loss Motivation – Positive attitude

Having a positive mental attitude is key to keeping your motivation for weight loss. It’s a fact of life, positive people tend to have more successes in life, they tend to be happier, more fulfilled and worry less. With the right positive attitude, your chances of succeeding greatly increases. You have to pay as much attention to what’s going on in your head as what’s on your plate. Like they say in tennis, it is 80% mental, 20% skill. So how can we stay positive such at such a daunting task?

Here are a couple of ideas:

1) Small victories

Set up small short term goals that are easy to achieve. Examples can be: For one meal, do not eat meat. Or, for one day, exercise at least 5 minutes longer than the previous day. You get the idea. By setting up super short term, easily achievable goals, you can celebrate victories more often and feel good about making progress.

2) Try easier, not harder.

Remember that this is something you WANT to do, not something you HAVE to do. No one is forcing you to lose weight, you are doing it on your own volition. So why make it so hard? If exercising three times a week is too hard, then try doing it twice. If that is too hard, then try doing it only once a week. Either way you are doing something good for yourself and you should feel good while doing it. Trying easier would make the process much more painless, and in doing so more likely to allow you to stay positive about the experience.

3) Support group

Having a group or someone for support is a very effective to maintaining positive attitude and motivation. There are a many ways to find one. It could be a colleague, friend or family. Many support groups for weight loss also exist online. There should also be clubs and groups for outdoor activity in your area. Try a running club, or hiking group. You will get to meet new people and find support.

Remember that a positive attitude is half the battle. And as Winston Churchill once said, “Never, never, never, never give up.
